The Tooth Fairy Dilemma

Miss J front teeth are wiggling for the past couple weeks now. This will be her first time and our first time to deal with baby teeth coming out. Now what is the going rate from the Tooth Fairy? This is rather critical as it will set us up for the next 20 something teeth to come.. Any idea?

I like the idea of giving a silver dollar. We haven't started losing teeth yet. I guess I need to go out and get some!

The tooth fairy always left a $1 bill when she took my children's teeth. ;)

I don't know maybe you could get her a quarter collector thing for all the states and give her 2 quarters for each tooth (20*2?)and then put them in together? Then she can look forward to different state quarters to put in her collection and not go broke. Just an idea~

Some people give special amounts for the very first tooth, but I think that is a bad precident so we always gave golden dollar coins, Allen was lucky that the vending machines at work always distributed them. So I would say a dollar is a good amount.

I like JoJo's idea--it gives them something tangible and doesn't encourage spending RIGHT AWAY! When my kids were really little, I think we only gave a quarter, but it looks like we have a cheapskate Tooth Fairy. We've bumped it up since then - I think usually $.50 or $1.00 depending on how many quarters I have. So lame, I know!

I think $1 - especially something like a silver dollar or those gold-like dollars they have now would be perfect! It's something special because they don't see that kind of coin often.

For your child's first tooth, you might want to give them something really special as a keepsake AND it will help you as a parent because you won't have to go hunting under the pillow for the tooth. We make small, wooden Tooth Faery boxes with a velvet pillow on the inside, dimpled so it cradles the tooth. I hand-wood burn a faery on the lid - boy or girl, depending upon your child's gender. And I can wood burn their name.

Visit my eBay store to see some pictures. You can choose the color velvet inside and the color of the outfit the faery wears.

That's my two pence...
